Two Projects to Brighten Your Crafts Corner
The winter is still here, and what better time is there for some fun and simple activities indoors? Here are two projects that will bring a fresh appearance to your crafts corner and can also help to organize some of the supplies. These projects are made using recycled materials, but you can personalize them as you wish. Let’s get started!
A String/Cord Dispenser
Materials:
- Cardboard box
- A drawing, some old, nice illustrated wrapping paper or a magazine page
- Glue
- A sharp tool, to make the holes (it can also be a sharp pencil)
- The wool, cotton, raffia, silk, lace or any other balls you might have
Instructions:
- Glue the drawing/wrapping paper/magazine page on the bottom of the box. If you like, you can cover the sides too, with paper or drawings.
- Make some holes in this side of the box.
- Turn over the box and place the balls inside. Take the end of each and pull it on the other side (the decorated one).
- Now seal the box with some adhesive tape and turn it over.
Put the box on a shelf or in a corner of your crafts table. You can now choose from your variety of cords and easily cut the length you need for each project.
A Pencil Holder
Materials:
- Empty, clean tin/can
- An old sweater
- Scissors
Instructions:
Cut the arm of the sweater and place it over the can. Roll it over like in the picture and place all your instruments inside. You can make different holders with different colours, textures, and sizes. Use them as they are or embroider letters, numbers or small symbols on them, depending on their uses.
Tip: The torso/body of the sweater can become a nice, soft pillowcase.

The cord dispenser is a great idea. I’m going to do it with the gift ribbon which always gets tangled. Thanks!
I agree! Room for more than one ball of string or ribbon. Very clever!
