Eating and Drinking: Letter from the Editor
American writer Mitch Albom said that the food mothers make carries “a certain taste of memory.” With the holidays approaching, if you’re trying to create food memories for your family, we have some great suggestions in our latest issue: Eating and Drinking.
We also tackle some of the more challenging aspects relating to the subject, such as excessive consumption, transitioning to solids, and fussy eaters. In addition, you will find suggestions for places to go and activities to do with your family.
There is much more in this issue – too much to list here! So please explore our website now; then come back later to read the parts you didn’t get to the first time, and then return yet again to make sure you really haven’t missed anything! Furthermore, it’s great to read your ideas relating to our articles, so don’t be shy with your comments.

Mothering Matters grew out of a small La Leche League newsletter that started in 1994, and now our first year as an online journal is coming to an end! We believe we have good reason to feel delighted at our success. Our current issue has contributions from 21 writers, and alongside of these are a team of volunteers working on illustrations, photography, copyediting, editing, proofreading, layout and other behind-the-scenes roles, such as finance, advertising, communications and marketing. It is a brilliant collaboration of a diverse group of volunteers spread across Switzerland producing our not-for-profit journal. Thank you to this dedicated team that has made Mothering Matters a success.
We must also thank our sponsors, who have believed in us in this year of transition from a print to an online journal.
And we extend a heartfelt thanks to you, our dear readers. Without your continued interest in our journal, we would have no reason to produce our articles. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2014 to continue the journey with us as Mothering Matters celebrates 20 years.
In the meantime, our best wishes for peace and happiness in the holiday season and beyond. We hope that you can relax and enjoy the year’s end with your loved ones.
With warmest regards,
Dina El Halaby and Andrea Snashall (Editors)
