Reading and Literacy: Letter from the Editor

Dear Readers,

Reading is an activity that is held in high esteem. It is important on many different levels and in most areas of life. When we – a primary school teacher and a degreed librarian – got together to produce an issue of Mothering Matters, it was the one of the first topics that came to mind.

In this issue, you (thanks to your carefully developed and maintained reading skills) can read some thoughts on stories, books in their different formats, libraries, learning to read, and literacy in general. We also have a pretty long list of favorite books from friends and some of our team, along with some great reading material in our columns that may or may not concern our pet subject of reading.

We are most grateful to our feature and column writers for taking the time to provide this informative, thought-provoking and entertaining reading material.

Can we squeeze the word of the month in here one more time? Of course….
