Make a Paper Angel
For the Christmas season, there are so many craft possibilities that it is difficult to choose one. I asked my two boys for ideas and they came up with the idea of building an angel. My oldest son had already made one in school and we still use it as a holiday decoration. I thought that it was a nice idea, and an angel goes well with the spirit of Christmas.
My children first made a plan to decide what materials we would need to make an angel:
- Cotton for the clouds and for inside the head
- Paper: a white piece for the head
- A decorative piece of stiffer card stock for the body and another for the wings
- Scissors
- Sticky tape (double-sided) and glue
- Wool for the hair
Then came the problem of how to make it, but sticky tape can solve almost anything.
- Draw the angel’s face on the white paper. Form the head with the paper; fill with cotton and seal with the tape.
- With the decorative card, make a cylinder or cone and hold with tape. Attach the head. Then take some wool and glue some hair on her head.
- Cut wings for your angel from the other piece of card stock. Attach.
- Use another piece of cotton to form a cloud for your angel to sit on.
Cutting here and sticking there, in some minutes the boys had made their angels, and my oldest one, who had had his hair cut by his father not so long ago, was particularly interested in trimming the wool hair of the angel. (I promised him that next time I will take him to my hairdresser; he doesn’t seem very happy with his hair at the moment.)
They were quite happy with their angels and so am I. It is always nice to produce something with them, working as a team. I hope that this idea, which is quite simple, could be useful for you and your children and even improved upon. Best wishes for a great Christmas!
